So whats next?

I agree with your disagreement. The retrieval of pen and paper are awful.

The problem is that we are overly complicating PKMs and and knowledge systems and focusing on storage instead of thinking or active retrieval which mostly comes from the fact that people tend not to know what is important and how to engage with it.

A simple journal timeline with bullet points and insights / interesting things that are relevant to me made a difference.

I have no idea how I would have stored these in a paper format dragging with me whilst travelling.

Yep a good article about this: https://addyo.substack.com/p/the-70-problem-hard-truths-abou...

LLMs are good for the first 70% (I'd argue probably 50%).

Isn't it basically separating your identity from your work and finding meaning in different parts of life (relationships, interests)?

Having a spouse helps, but overall I think this is a road to depression. People are social creatures and you need to be proactive with friends especially in the adulthood and also participate in communities if time allows (sports, interests etc.)

Informative. I almost tend to think there should be a division between advisors and hands-on work fractionals.

I started with non-technical skills at the earlier stages of my life (sales, marketing, communication) so my goal in the next 10 years is to pick-up:

- Programming and be proficient with one language fundamentals (for now JS/TS) - launchschool seems like a great place for mastery learning.

- Math academy for learning math as an adult with a similar principle of mastery.

On a personal front I've managed to lose 14kgs with the skill of consistency of calorie tracking with Macrofactor and strength training + walking.

And last but not least the self-discovery, meditation and couple counseling made the major difference in my day to day.

I landed on this page thanks to the newsletter.

I also use Raycast HackerNews aggregation but I appreciate your email every time it lands.

Very cool! Always wondered how solo engineers deal with physical and shipping? I suppose there is some sort of API that allows prints and shipping on behalf?

I started with an API called Pwinty which turned out to be pretty expensive so I ended up basically recruiting a print shop partner based in the US.

I've actually been looking at releasing a 4"x6" photo printing API of my own since we've developed some pretty neat shipping tricks as well as the ability to print on both sides of the photos.

I was actually looking at it from a different business model perspective. There are some APIs that do both print and ship in various formats but there is definitely a markup on top. Aggregating printers that are digital enough is quite a challenge of its own though :)

I used to be like that.

First of all your situation and context is unique. Everyone has their own circumstances (including aging parents).

For many, even perhaps for you this is a reality. However for others its a fear of worst case scenario as a protection mechanism that served you when you were at a certain stage of life and many just kept it as a habit.

For a single grad without responsibilities after 3 years of working at a FAANG this fear of the future shackles them to explore and take calculated risks.

I've seen people with $20k in their savings account going for 1 year sabbatical describing it as transformational.

Its all priorities I guess and sometimes we can't say for every case that its actually the lack of agency that is holding you back.

Only you know for sure internally when reading this, if its making you uncomfortable and uneasy and if you have an emotional reaction.

For some, as mentioned its a reality and they are fully content with the limitations that they have and choices that they made in life that are now irreversible.

Up to everyone individually to evaluate their situation, however what is important to understand is that whether its really your context that is holding you hostage or just your fear.
