Why does cloudfront not support connecting to an ELB on a private subnet?

https://stackoverflow.com/a/74397920/563420

Seems like a big blindspot with no work-around.

guilded.gg is a great alternative for this use case (and many others). Transparency: I work there.

Thanks and you are very welcome! LMK how it goes / how I can improve.

OP here - my hope is other software engineers/devs can use this as a tool to get knowledge out of their heads and into the hands of kids. Took a few days off during winter break and made/went through this with my kids.

Feedback/PRs appreciated.

Yea until they don't. Exhibit A: StubHub [1]

Are you grandfathered into the 10,000 free Action minutes for paid Teams? 10k -> 3k drop is pretty substantial.

How do you "check out" one of these to a kindle? I see you can download a kindle file, but dunno how to get that to sync to my kindle devices.

My goal is to show my 5th grader how to checkout a book to his kindle eReader by himself..

You can either use Amazon's email-to-kindle service, or just plug your Kindle into your computer with a USB cable. It should show up as a drive, and you can just copy the file over.

Thank you Justin!

This is the way my friend. Hold tight.

Confused - why not use CloudFront Origin Groups? https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonCloudFront/latest/Develope...

Full disclosure, I've never used, but pretty sure this feature was created for the scenario you are trying to solve.

That's a relatively new feature (from November 2018... wow, has it been a year already?). My guess is that they implemented this stuff before that existed or maybe near to its release.

I have not used origin failover either, though I'm pretty sure you're right that this is its exact use-case.

You are correct, this has been implemented before Origin Groups have been released and they might be a viable alternative, but we haven’t tested them yet.

Source: I work at Contentful.

My concern is you (contentful) are leading folks down a bad path. Adding complexity, code, cost and a larger surface area of services that need to be up.

Agreed. This is the second scratch my head moment from the Plaid engineering team blog recently.
