I’m a bit late to the discussion, but having adopted Node-RED for home automation and some bot prototyping work, I concur that it’s very quick to get some stuff done, but that modularity and versioning are a constant pain.
I don’t see visual programming at sucking, but I think the idea of having diagrams as a quick panacea for the mental overhead of maintaining complex processes just doesn’t scale (I’ve had a number of discussions about this kind of thing since the rise of UML, for instance, and never saw UML docs being maintained after their creator left a project...)
