Just based on the usage patterns of crypto as a whole, it's likely that a fair number of FTX's users were involved in human trafficking, opioid dealing, and/or money laundering. I'm not sure how big of a percentage that was of FTX's user base—maybe it was too trivial to matter—but it does make me less sympathetic.
Don't forget the massive energy/CO2 emissions cost[0], producing over 100 grams of e-waste per transaction[1], and being used to fund the nuclear programs of rogue states[2].
I have always wondered if Satoshi (the anonymous creator of Bitcoin) might have been working for one of the rogue states in question. Pure speculation, but it would explain why Satoshi has never gone public to take credit for it.
Or it's because Hal Finney was Satoshi, and he never took credit for it because he was scared people would harass him even more than they already did, and he died in 2014, so he won't be able to take credit for it any more.
